POSITION SUMMARY: The Medical Referrals Specialist performs duties necessary to ensure that patient referrals are processed and scheduled promptly and accurately in support of requested provider referrals. This position is responsible for verifying patient insurance benefits with insurance companies, completing pre-authorizations, or obtaining referrals for all Specialty Offices.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure that patient referrals are processed in a timely manner following company policy.
- Works with clinical staff to ensure authorizations cover services needed.
- Review all insurance eligibility responses and communicate with the patient and their physician as needed regarding these responses or to obtain the correct information.
- Work with provider offices to resolve any questions or issues regarding a patient referral.
- Updating information received from patients, and physician offices in the computer system to ensure correct billing information is obtained prior to the time of service.
- Provides superior customer service to patients, families, co-workers, and the general public.
- Maintain confidentiality by following all applicable HIPAA regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 1-year related experience.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office software, including Word and Excel.
- Prior experience with medical office software and strong understanding of medical terminology preferred.
- General knowledge of Medicare and Oregon Health Plan preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong customer relations skills.
- Demonstrated strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize and manage time independently.
