Wage: $33.34-$46.50+/hr. DOE

POSITION SUMMARY: The Clinic Registered Nurse is responsible for providing professional nursing care for clinic patients following Siskiyou Community Health Center standards and practices. Assists Providers in coordinating patient care and patient education. Functions as primary liaison between patients, clinical staff and Providers. Focuses on contributing to the medical team to provide high-quality care to patients.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides nursing care services for clinic patients including triage and follow-up care. Administers treatment and dispenses prescribed medications within scope of practice, and in accordance with Siskiyou Community Health Center protocols, as well as Federal and State guidelines.
  • Knows and follows all clinical protocols, including charting and other paperwork, performing tests and procedures. Demonstrates initiative regarding safety issues to ensure both patient, personal and staff safety.
  • Provides patient care for nursing appointments and visits, such as:
    • Manages Coumadin Clinic and addresses PT/INR needs based on clinic protocols
    • Provides patient education and teaching
    • Administering and forecasting immunizations
    • Administering medications
  • Triages patient calls and walk-ins related to medical concerns, questions, or problems. Ensures appointment preferences are given to patients in emergency situations and schedules appointments as appropriate, following clinic protocols. Documents phone advice and missed appointments in patient’s medical record. Ensures that messages are relayed and follow-up is complete.
  • Assists Providers with technical procedures as requested.
  • Collaborates with Provider to address and follow up on critical lab results.
  • Provides support to Medical Assistants and clinical staff.
  • Manages vaccines inventory and Oregon Immunization Alert program.
  • Checks and maintains emergency crash carts on a monthly basis, ensuring that all carts have necessary, up-to-date supplies.
  • Checks AED machine monthly for proper functionality.
  • Completes individual tasks and attends to inbox on a daily basis.
  • Serves as a liaison for patients currently residing in nursing homes or using home health and/or hospice services.
  • Addresses medication refills and lab results.
  • Provides initial response for clinic medical emergencies, including the retrieval and utilization of crash carts.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  1. Current, unencumbered Oregon Registered Nurse license with a minimum of two (2) years’ experience, preferably in a community health clinic.
  2. Current BLS certification.
  3. ACLS certification required or ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire.
  4. Proof of current unrestricted Oregon Driver’s License, automobile insurance and a safe driving record.
  5. The ability to handle sensitive situations and stress effectively, projecting a professional attitude.
  6. Ability to consistently exercise independent discretion and judgment, but maintain a willingness to seek assistance and/or advice when needed.
  7. Must exhibit excellent organizational skills, punctuality and attendance. Ability to re-prioritize tasks.
  8. Ability to effectively communicate with patients, Providers and others, by phone and in person, displaying a courteous, professional manner.
  9. Ability to learn and use an electronic health record (EHR) system.
  10. Can demonstrate general knowledge of office processes and procedures, including computer word processing, data entry, and use of telephone equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Lifting, bending, reaching, palpating, pushing, carrying, and sitting. Vision and hearing corrected to normal range. Driving an automobile and physical mobility within the clinic.

HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS:

  • Exposure to blood and bodily fluids, possible exposure to physical violence, exposure to infectious diseases, exposure to sharp instruments and needles. Exposure to hazardous materials (bleach, cleaning products, etc).

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • 95% inside clinic, 5% outside clinic.

MACHINES, EQUIPMENT, TOOLS and SUPPLIES USED:

  • Standard medical equipment and machines, commonly used in a clinical setting, including but not limited to: EKG, audiometer, ultrasound, fetal monitors, pulmonary function tester. Computer, printer, copier and telephone equipment.

LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Under general supervision, is responsible for complex tasks within a work plan or project. Applies professional skills and knowledge of a specialized field to perform work without specific directions. Uses considerable medical and professional judgment.
