POSITION SUMMARY: The Medical Assistant (MA) helps ensure quality care and efficient patient flow through the clinic by processing and placing patients in examination rooms, and preparing patients for examination by medical Providers. Assists Providers during examinations and procedures. Performs procedures and administers medications and immunizations in accordance with clinic protocols, as well as Federal and State guidelines. Maintains clinical areas in a state of readiness for patient care. Focuses on contributing to the medical team to provide high-quality care to patients. MA may be assigned to cover endocrinology, behavioral health, School Based Health Centers (SBHC), or have general clinic duties. MAs may be asked to help in one of these areas even if it is not their primary assignment, and they may be asked to cover at another clinic.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Knows and follows all clinical protocols, including charting and other paperwork, administering medications and performing other tests and Demonstrates interest and initiative towards safety issues to ensure both patient, personal and staff safety. Knowledge of electronic medical record and computer use.
- Maintains examination rooms and ensures rooms are stocked, cleaned, prepped for incoming patients and upcoming procedures, in addition to checking expiration dates on products and medications in examination
- Pre-visit plans patient charts daily in preparation for Provider’s appointments. Review health maintenance updates (screenings, health histories, etc.), initial patient needs, lab and/or hospital records, and disease management protocols, if Verifies minor patients have received up-to-date vaccines.
- Administers vaccines and other
- Accompanies patients to examination rooms and prepares for examination by Provider by taking vital signs, completing patient interview regarding reason for visit, updating and preparing information in the electronic health system (EHR).
- Addresses refills and labs, per Provider
- Alerts medical provider or nurse when a patient presents with possible emergency or immediate medical
- Prepare room and patient for upcoming procedures, instruct patient in collection of specimens, preparation for procedures, and providing health education materials as directed by medical provider. Assist Provider, if needed, with procedures.
- Complete Patient Annual Questionnaire (PAQ) paperwork, as
- Prepare and submit lab orders and documents as directed by
- Provides educational materials to patients regarding Preventative Exams and Women’s Health.
- Provides pre-visit instructions to patients (such as bringing in any current medications, advising patients of any potential tests that may be done, etc).
- Maintains laboratory equipment and medical inventory (i.e. ensuring supplies are up-to date, etc.)
- Maintains clinical equipment and notifies the appropriate contact of any necessary repairs.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalency required.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant’s training program or a minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a medical assistant in a medical office or clinic
- Proof of current unrestricted Oregon Driver’s License, automobile insurance and a safe driving
- Proof of BLS certification or ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire.
- Proof of current immunizations meeting organization health and immunization standards.
- Can demonstrate knowledge of medical terminology, drug dosage information and medical abbreviations. Familiarity with computerized medical management programs preferred.

- Can demonstrate general knowledge of office processes and procedures, including computer word processing, data entry, and use of telephone
- Can demonstrate effective verbal and written communication Able to explain procedures and provide instructions to a variety of patients.

- Can demonstrate strong organizational skills and effective use of time, working at a rapid pace and managing multiple tasks at the same
- Pre-employment criminal background check and comprehensive drug screening are required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Bending, reaching, pushing and lifting. Vision and hearing were corrected to be within normal range. Physical mobility within clinic.
HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS:
Exposure to blood and bodily fluids. Exposure to infectious diseases and airborne pathogens. Contact with sharp and contaminated instruments and needles. Exposure to CRT. Contact with patients and occasional rude and/or angry encounters.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
100% office-based.

EKG, Spirometer, centrifuge, microscope, autoclave, needles, surgical and other laboratory instruments. Computer, printer, copier, fax machine, scanner, and multi-line phone system.
